The Purple Elephant Project is committed to keeping children safe and promoting their wellbeing. This summary explains the key points of our safeguarding policy for parents and carers. Our full children protection and safeguarding policy can be found on our website.
We work closely with families and partner agencies to ensure children feel safe, listened to, respected and supported. We aim to provide a safe environment, identify concerns early, protect children from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and ensure staff are trained in safeguarding.
Safeguarding means protecting children and young people from harm, supporting their welfare and taking action when concerns arise.
Any concerns are recorded, reviewed by the DSL and, where necessary, shared with Children’s social care, the police or other safeguarding agencies.
We normally discuss safeguarding concerns with parents and carers unless doing so could increase risk to a child.
Information is treated sensitively, but may be shared with relevant agencies when needed to protect a child.
Staff are trained to respond to online risks including cyberbullying, grooming, harmful content, exploitation and inappropriate image sharing.
Extra consideration is given to children with SEND, mental health needs, care experience or other vulnerabilities.
All staff, therapists, volunteers and trustees receive safeguarding training and are recruited using safer recruitment procedures.
Parents and carers should contact the DSL if they have any safeguarding concerns. All concerns are taken seriously.
